Advanced Batteries
Panacis develops battery systems for products ranging from mission-critical defense and medical systems to high-performance consumer and industrial devices.
Recent advances in high capacity, high power batteries have opened up new applications for portable and mobile systems. They offer significant weight savings versus conventional batteries, and can meet the challenging power requirements of modern mobile devices and systems. Panacis has particular experience with the latest generation of battery technologies, including advanced lithium polymer (LiPo) batteries that are capable of delivering significantly higher power than conventional technologies.
From implantable hearts to advanced fighter craft, lives depend on many of the battery systems developed by Panacis.
With new technologies come new design challenges, requiring specialized design experience in some of the following areas:
- Pack protection electronics, ensuring system and operator safety,
- Heat dissipation and reduction of thermal effects, improving weight, size, and performance,
- Efficient and purpose-adapted mechanical design and packaging,
- Smart charging systems, including integrated chargers and very high rate chargers,
- Regulatory approvals and certifications, ensuring compliance and reducing time to launch,
- Battery health monitoring, increasing battery life, and
- Low standby currents, reducing self-discharge.
Some of our battery experience includes:
- design of one of the first advanced lithium battery packs cleared for flight in an F18,
- a triple-redundant portable power system for an artificial heart,
- an aviation battery that produced over 90% of normal capacity at -40 degrees Celsius,
- soldier systems battery that includes capacity indicators which are always on, yet has a shelf life of 2 years,
- robotic battery that can drive a 600 pound unit up a flight of stairs,
- a portable power platform for a high-power, 270V drive system,
- smart chargers with patent pending charge accelerator technologies, and
- power scavenging systems with vibration, solar, USB, and non-rechargeable inputs.
