The electrochemical cells that go into a battery are the key to the whole system. Without good cells the battery system cannot perform. Similarily, poor system design will ruin the performance of even the best cells. The cost of the cells is often the single highest bill-of-materials cost item in the overall battery system, therefore, the ability to source cells at good prices is critical to program success.

Panacis is a “cell agnostic” company. We will specify the rechargeable battery technology to suit the goals of the product. Panacis has close relationships with battery factories internationally, this gives us the ability to locate cells or to have cells produced at volume and price levels that are simply not possible when working through distributors or reps.

When no cells exist that meet the program goals, Panacis has the ability to custom design cells to meet the specific needs of the program. The volume and cost commitment are surprising low for this service due to our strong relationship with several battery fabs.

Panacis has completed many cell designs which incorporated features such as:

• A half-moon style cell to fit inside a consumer product
• A palm-sized battery that could deliver over 1000 amps to a power tool
• A small cell that could perform at -50ºC under high loads
• A conformally curved cell
• A high power cell capable of 50,000 recharge cycles
